If eggnog is your go-to Christmas serve then this cocktail is the one for you. The term “Flip” was originally used to describe the mixture of beer, rum and sugar heated with a red hot iron. Over time, an egg was added and the drink is now served cold.

A Flip traditionally varied from eggnog as no cream was used. However, most bars will now include some form of cream and we decided to go with buttermilk to add a little tang that compliments the coffee and balances out the sweetness coming through from the honey. Although the idea of using a whole egg may put some people off, it’s definitely worth adding as the yolk gives a creamy texture and the white allows for a frothy finish.

Our Christmas spirit is now in full flow and so our name for this serve is the Festive Flip.


  1. Double Standard - 35ml
  2. Honey syrup - 15ml
  3. Cold-brew coffee - 15ml
  4. Buttermilk - 15ml
  5. Egg - 1


  1. Combine whisky, honey, coffee, buttermilk and egg in a cocktail shaker. Shake without ice for around 20 seconds then fill the shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled (around 30 seconds). Double strain into a coupe glass and garnish with grated hazelnut.
