This recipe reads a little like the formula of a Christmas Frappuccino, but has layers of flavour that aren’t hidden behind a wall of sugar. The cold press espresso provides for a bitter base that’s balanced with a pinch of unsweetened cocoa. The allspice provides some festive notes, the cayenne a warming heat and sweetness is pulled through from the maple syrup. And, of course, Double Standard adds a hint of smoke that finishes off this festive treat.

With Christmas Eve in full swing, we would encourage you to sit back and relax with our choice of holiday tipple. It’s quick, easy to make and can be served up in a wine glass. We’ve decided to name this drink Holiday Espress as it’ll get you in the Christmas spirit pronto!


  1. Double Standard - 50ml
  2. Cold press espresso - 50ml
  3. Maple syrup - 25ml
  4. Double cream - 15ml
  5. Unsweetened cocoa - pinch
  6. Allspice - pinch
  7. Cayenne pepper - pinch


  1. Combine whisky, espresso, maple syrup, cream, cocoa, allspice and cayenne in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake until well chilled (around 30 seconds). Strain into a wine glass and garnish with a sprinkling of allspice.
